Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte liquid lipstick review

Now here is something I've been meaning to write for a long while. But then Mumford happened, and Mumford happened again and for the longest time the formula of a couple of liquid lipsticks was the last thing on my mind. Because oh my God I love them and oh dear God, they were amazing. The good thing though is that while I was busy being distracted by Marcus Mumford's voice (and face), I had the chance to try these Gerard Cosmetics liquid lips out for a good while and now I've got a few things to say.

Gerard Cosmetics, like many indie brands, is very active on Social Media and they also got my attention on Instagram. They are most known for their liquid lipsticks although they also have a bunch of other make-up. 've been wanting to try the lipsticks out for a very long time. They often have great discount bundles up on their site and when I saw an offer to buy 3 lipsticks for $35 ($31.50 with a discount code) I decided to go for it. I ordered 1995 (red brown), Iced Mocha (grey brown) and Ecstasy (lilac with cool undertones) . They all come in very lovely frosted glass packaging with a gold cap and a doe foot applicator.

The very first thing I noticed, before even putting them on, is of course, and in this case unfortunately, the scent. I hate when products smell very chemical or extremely sweet. And that is exactly what these smell like. Keep in mind the delicious subtle vanilla scent of MAC lipsticks and make it 10 times stronger. Exactly, it's not good. That being said, this is the only complaint I have about the product itself. The other thing I didn't really like was that it took them very long to ship the product out. I understand that they are busy and probably a bit overwhelmed by the demand but I had to wait a month for my order to arrive. The customer service is very friendly and helpful though, so i'll just forgive them for that one.

Because other than the smell the lipsticks are great. Not as perfect at the Jeffree Star ones but they're good. They are not very drying on the lips, they are very pigmented, last a long time and the colours are very unique. 1995 is my (and everyone's) favourite because it's the perfect brown for my skintone. I also love Ecstasy a lot but the shade is very similar to NARS' Dominique and even though the formula is completely different, I prefer to wear that one if I feel like wearing that kind of shade. They're all pretty and flattering colours though.

Another last thing that is worth mentioning is that they are definitely concert proof. And I don't mean the 'chill at the back with a drink' kind of concert but the die hard 'queue in the rain and sing your heart out at the front row' experience. Which, for me, is a very good thing to know.

All in all I don't think they really do something that my other favourite liquid lips can't do but if you are a lipstick horder like myself you definitely need a couple of these in your collection. They retail for $20 a piece on the website and there are often discounts available. I recommend you check out the bundles on the sale page too though to save you some money if you're like me and are unable to pick just one colour.

So there's that, can I now go back into my Mumford cave (i'm sorry) for a couple of days until Bruce comes bursting in when i'm seeing him in London this weekend? Nice.

cool: very pigmented, nice colour range, wear time, application, not very dying
not so cool: smell, shipping time
